The “D” Word

The Higher Self  Everyone has a “Higher Self”. Higher Self can be described a number of ways…. your conscience, your divine self, God active within you. Your ultimate goal is to become your Higher Self – which removes layers of interference and gets you closer to Source. Higher Self is there to help you in your spiritual development, to help you come into your true power as a little piece of God.  The Higher Self is a piece of you … the best part that isn’t swayed by the illusion of this world. As you develop spiritually, you become less effected by what is going on in this 3-D reality and more able to skate through this whole illusion. Some people might call the Higher Self our guardian angel. The Higher Self has a tremendous sense of humor.

Higher Selves communicate with one another freely- like working at a huge spiritual version of N.A.S.A.’s mission control room: with all of the Higher Selves working at command consoles and the Spirit Guides running around assisting them, arranging us to meet and have learning experiences. Did you ever have an intuitive flash or hear a little voice that tells you to travel a different route, only to discover that the route you would have taken originally was totally messed up? Ever feel nudged to a certain place or thing? That’s your Higher Self working with you.

Spirit and Higher Self will have you going with the wondrous flow of the Universe’s synchronicity in which all of your needs will always be met and you will always be taken care of. On the other hand, your ego is a fear-based, control-based cranky little bus driver that lives in the reptilian hind-brain and has no business running your life. The ego will run your life according to a bad script that replays stupid little patterns over and over like a bumpy bus route. Breaking these patterns severs the hold that your ego has on your spiritual development. True personal power comes from spiritual development.

The Higher Self is the part of you that’s there to get us to a stage of advanced evolvement and personal power. It is the seat of your higher knowledge and intuition. Dowsing is a nice developmental method to get you more integrated with Higher Self over time.

The  ART OF DOWSING The very first thing you will need to learn is how to get reliable information.  This will involve a little bit of practice, so be patient.

There are three ways to dowse, or divine, answers to questions.  One is what is called GSR.  This stands for Galvanic Skin Response, and is done by attaching small electrodes to the your fingertips.  The electrodes measure very subtle changes in the body’s energy field – this is the same type of setup that is used  when you take a lie detector test.  This system is expensive….You have to have a machine which costs big bucks and it’s simply too much of a hassle for the average person to obtain.  So, let’s take a look at the number two types of dowsing.

Pendulum Dowsing The second type of dowsing, and probably the most popular of the three is using the pendulum.  A pendulum is any object that is reasonably well balanced and can be hung and swung at the end of a string, chain, wire, necklace etc.  The object can be anything from a washer  to a crystal.  When you use the pendulum it will spin one way when the answer to your question is yes, and will spin a different way when the answer to your question is no. Some people believe that they have to have a  pendulum made a certain way, so they spend some bucks to get the right pendulum.  Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy for them.  I believe that   each person needs to use whatever they feel most comfortable with.  The only downside to this pendulum thing, drawing from personal experience, is that  when you use a pendulum there seems to be a tendency to attract one or more  playful spirits who may throw off your accuracy. Every now and then I will  pick up a pendulum and use it, since it is very helpful in showing, visually, which direction energy is flowing.  Hold your pendulum comfortably in your writing hand while holding it over your open palm; this completes the circuit in your energy field making the pendulum more responsive. Now focus, and ask your Higher Self to show you three things:

  • Your YES position.
  • Your NO position.
  • Your TRACKING or NEUTRAL position.

What you are doing is establishing a standard code to communicate with. A moving tracking position is ideal because it is faster and eliminates interference from micro-motor movement.

Most people have one of two basic codes. One set of codes is a to-and-fro swing for YES, sideways for NO (like you shake your head yes or no), and going in a circle for the tracking position. The other basic set of codes is a clockwise circle for YES, a counterclockwise circle for NO, and swinging to and fro for the tracking position. Don’t worry if nothing suggests itself, it just means you will have to choose your code-swings. Once you establish your code, you will have to affirm this code before you start dowsing throughout your break-in period, which can be a month or longer depending on how much you practice. Experience will show you variations on the YES or NO answers, and how to phrase your questions to get the most direct and accurate answers. Remember to get yourself out of the way, focus and detach from the answer.

Your TRACKlNG POSITION, or NEUTRAL POSITION, is important. You may find it best to start with your pendulum already moving gently in this neutral tracking position, or “holding pattern” so that the pendulum swing will snap more quickly into the YES or NO positions. After asking and obtaining an answer to a question, thank the Higher Self then clear the slate, so to speak, by gently getting the pendulum going in the tracking position again so your next answer is not influenced by the swing of your last answer.

The leading edge is the portion of the pendulum swing that is furthest away from the center, which will point you in the direction you want to go.  Look for this leading edge, especially when you are trying to locate something you have misplaced.

To start dowsing after you invoke divine guidance, you get the pendulum swinging in your tracking position, and from there it will maneuver into your yes or no answer positions. But, what happens if I forget  to pack my trusty pendulum?  This leads us to the third type of dowsing: the stickplate.

Stick Plate Dowsing

The third type of dowsing is called the stickplate.  This is what I predominantly use when asking questions.  It is probably the simplest to learn, requires no equipment of any kind and can be done any where at any time.

What you need is a slick or semi-slick surface, like plastic.  I’ve even used a credit card.  The texture of the surface should feel like the top of your fingernails.  In fact, you can use your fingernails as a stickplate!  How’s that for simple!  Now, what you are going to be doing is asking questions mentally.  You might at first start asking your questions aloud,  but you will find that the process will go faster when you do it mentally. The questions you ask need to be yes/no type questions only.  The most important thing here is that NOT ONLY ARE YOU CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE ASKING, BUT ALSO HOW YOU ARE ASKING THE QUESTION.

Let’s digress for a minute and talk about INTENTION. There are many  references as to how powerful the human body is…We do know that the body produces its own electricity.  This electricity, to a large degree, is responsible for moving moving muscles, secreting hormones, running major and minor organ systems, etc., and most importantly in the functioning of the brain itself.  Now you are all aware about electricity in your home.  You know, you plug in an appliance and you switch it on and it works.  Well, the electricity in your home operates at what is called 60 cycles per second.    This means that the polarity of the electricity changes 60 times every second.  This is why it is called alternating current…because it alternates…..okay?

Now, the electricity in the human body also alternates just like in your home. However, it alternates 4.5 million times a second!  What this means is that if you could supply the body’s electricity to your home’s energy demands, you would burn it to the ground!  That’s how much electricity we generate as human beings..Now, what in the world does this have to do with intention?

Remember that the brain also produces electricity and uses electricity to function.  Since the amount of electricity in the body is so great, by the time you have focused on a clear, distinct thought – it has already been set into motion, through intent, because, INTENTION PRECEDES THOUGHT. It is powered by your own electricity (4.5 million cycles per second worth), and works faster that the speed of thought…

Now, let’s apply this to asking questions.  It is very important, when you ask a question that it is truly representing what you INTEND to ask.  If your question is not the same as your intention, or your intended question, then your answer will be based on your true intended question.  Even though you are asking something else…

For example:  Let’s say you ask,”Will I see Bob tomorrow?”  And your answer is “yes”.  Tomorrow comes and no Bob.  What happened?  What you didn’t’ notice was that you may have wanted to see Bill, not Bob.  So your answer to your question was based on your non-asked question, “Will I see  Bill tomorrow?”  The non-asked question was actually your true intention.  And in all cases your true intention will determine the accuracy of your answers.  So, what you have to remember is this: be honest and clear about what and how you ask your questions.  Your accuracy depends upon it. Now back to the stickplate……

The first thing you need to learn is how a stick feels to you. So, lightly drag you right hand’s three middle fingers across the surface of the stickplate.  I prefer to rub the stickplate with my three middle fingers in counterclockwise circles.  The important thing is to stay relaxed. Then, ask, mentally, “GIVE ME A STICK”.  Within a few seconds you should feel one or more of your fingers start to drag, or stick to the surface of the stickplate.  This is a positive/yes response.  When you ask a question, and your fingers stick like this, it means YES.  Then, ask, mentally, “GIVE  ME A NO STICK”.  This time, your fingers should still be gently dragging on the stickplate’s surface without any drag whatsoever.  This is a negative/no  response.  When you ask a question, and your fingers don’t stick like this ,  it means NO.  At this point I would ask a YES/NO question to which you know the answer is definitely yes and no.  Like,” My name is (use real name).” You should get a stick on this.  When you ask, “My name is (use false name),” you should get a no stick at all.

This technique takes a little practice, so don’t get too frustrated.  There are a few things you can do to help.  One is, if you have naturally oily hands or skin, or sweaty hands, it is difficult to feel a good stick. The remedy for this is to sprinkle a few dabs (just a little pinch) of corn starch on the stick plate surface.  Rub it around a bit on the surface.  This will give you a better texture to work with when dowsing.  One small box of cornstarch will last you for years……

I’ve also noticed that different fingers will tend to stick over others  during different parts of the day.  I don’t know why, it just happens this way.  The index/pointer finger tends to stick more in the morning hours.  The middle finger seems to stick more in the afternoon. And, the ring finger seems to stick more in the evening.  Now, these are broad generalizations, but it may help you in discerning using your stick plate. Get into the habit of using a either a pendulum or the stickplate technique. PRACTICE, PRACTICE PRACTICE!!
